What is Plein Air?​

French for "in the open air" used to describe the act of painting outdoors. Plein Air competitions are all about painting outdoors in a specific area or region and then having those paintings exhibited in an art gallery.

Palouse Plein Air 2014

Historic Moscow, Idaho and the beautiful Palouse are the perfect destination for plein air artists, which is why they are the back drop for Palouse Plein Air 2014.

An area with a long history of farming, mining, logging, with fields, rivers, mountains​ and historic homes... a plein air paradise!

Artist Information

Palouse Plien Air 2014 is an 8 day painting competition for artists 18 years-of-age or older.

Registration

$20 entrance fee includes:

  • Registration in the competition
  • Invitation to the Artists Reception and Awards Ceremony on September 19
  • Quick Draw at the Moscow Farmers Market
All painting mediums are invited to participate. There is no limit on the number of painting surfaces participants can register for the event.

Gallery Exhibit and Judging

On September 19 from 8:00 a.m. to noon participants are to deliver a maximum of 3 finished entries framed and ready to hang to the Third Street Gallery. The Gallery is located in Moscow City Hall (206 E. Third). The judging will take place from noon to 4:30 p.m.

Palouse Plein Air 2014 Juror: Dana Aldis

​​​Dana lives in Lewiston, Idaho. She works predominantly in the medium of painting (oils) but she also includes drawing and bookarts in her art repertoire. Dana completed an MFA cum laude at the New York Academy of Art Graduate School of Figurative Art and a BFA with honors from the Corcoran College of Art & Design in Washington, DC. Dana is the First Prize winner of the 2011 Palouse Plein Air and was awarded Honorable Mention at the 2012 Palouse Plein Air. Dana is a member of the Palouse Women Artists, The Valley Art Center (Clarkston) and The Creative Shop Artist Co-Op (Lewiston).

Artists Reception and Awards Ceremony

On September 19 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. an artist reception and awards ceremony will be held at the Third Street Gallery. The event is free and open to the public.
