City of Moscow Fire Department Division Chief Joe Williams has been named Interim Fire Chief, effective June 24, 2014 according to City Supervisor Gary J. Riedner. The opening of the Fire Chief position follows the retirement of Chief Ed Button who served as Fire Chief for seven years. Williams' appointment will continue until the search for new Chief is completed.
Riedner indicated that the Fire Chief opening was advertised from May 2 through June 5, and the City has received many qualified applicants for the position. The process will culminate with personal interviews of the top applicants, to include meetings with the Board of Directors of the Moscow Volunteer Fire Department. Mayor Bill Lambert will make the appointment, which will be submitted to City Council for confirmation.
Chief Ed Button is retiring after a total of fifteen years with the City of Moscow, eight of those years as Assistant Fire Chief and Fire Marshal before being appointed Chief.
