Current City Volunteer Opportunities
City Commissions
The City of Moscow is always seeking applicants to fill positions on certain boards and commissions. Find more information regarding each commission or board’s purpose and meeting schedules (PDF). It is recommended that applicants attend a meeting of the commission they are interested in, if possible. All commission meetings are open to the public. Moscow residents are invited to learn specific details by visiting our Commissions page.
Moscow Volunteer Fire Department
The Moscow Volunteer Fire Department (MVFD) is 125 years old, and its members volunteer thousands of hours of training and countless hours of response time every year without cost to the citizens of Moscow. Currently, the MVFD has approximately 100 volunteers providing fire protection service and volunteer ambulance service within the City of Moscow and the Moscow Rural Fire District. The work can be physically demanding and emotionally challenging. To apply, please fill out the MVFD application (PDF).
Environmental Services
Volunteer opportunities through the Environmental Services Department include our Downtown clean-up effort, clean-ups of our local waterways, storm drain marking, assistance with our environmental education and outreach program and providing assistance for waste wise events.
- Downtown clean-up is an annual event held every spring, usually around Earth Day. It is a community-wide effort to beautify the downtown core by picking up litter and other debris that has accumulated over the course of the year.
- Stream clean-ups focus on removing litter from our local waterways, such as Paradise Creek
- Storm drain marking requires volunteers to place asphalt “stickers” near storm drains in order to educate the general public on where the water that flows into the storm system ends up.
- Environmental education and outreach activities are offered through the City’s Public Information and Education (PIE) program. It provides K-12 and adult education opportunities. Assistance is occasionally needed for larger groups.
- Waste Wise event assistance requires the set-up, monitoring, and take-down of 3-stream waste stations in order to reduce the amount of landfill waste produced as City events.

Moscow Farmers Market
Our Farmers Market is consistently ranked among the best in the country, thanks in part to the efforts of our amazing volunteers. We offer a variety of opportunities to assist with Market programming, so please email our Community Events Manager if you are interested in helping with the Moscow Farmers Market or other community events.
Arts Program
The City of Moscow Arts Program enriches the community by celebrating and cultivating the expressions of all art forms and culture. The program curates community exhibition space at the Third Street Gallery inside City Hall, orchestrates arts events and programming, promotes arts and culture education, and implements a comprehensive public art program. If you are interested in volunteering for the Arts Program please email the Arts Program Manager for more information.
