The City of Moscow and the Moscow Arts Commission announce the design selected for the public art project at C & Main Streets. Artists Jennifer Corio & Dave Frei of Cobalt Designworks created the artwork entitled The Homecoming, which was selected for installation in the summer of 2020.
Corio and Frei have been creating metal sculptures in their Vancouver, WA studio since 2008. Working together, this team of artists develops projects from concept and design to creation and installation. "We are honored and excited to create The Homecoming for the C & Main Street Couplet," said Corio. "It is especially meaningful since Dave grew up in Moscow and graduated from Moscow High and U of I. This project is a wonderful way to pay homage to the place where Dave was born and raised."
Public art acquisition in the City of Moscow is guided by the vision of the Moscow Arts Commission and by the project prioritization outlined in the Public Art Master Plan adopted in 2015. Following an open request-for-qualifications period, a 6-member selection panel made up of artists, community members, and representatives from Moscow City Council and Arts Commission selected three finalists for the project. These finalists created design proposals for consideration by the community and the selection panel. A final recommendation for The Homecoming was made by the panel to the Moscow Arts Commission, and subsequently to City Council in the last months of 2019.
The artists are currently engaged in the fabrication process for this artwork, which is slated for installation during the summer of 2020. For more information, visit the City of Moscow’s Public Art webpage at: https://www.ci.moscow.id.us/218/Public-Art.
