Basic Function

This position is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Hamilton-Lowe Aquatic Center. This full-time temporary seasonal position will supervise other temporary pool staff. 

Distinguishing Function

The Aquatics Manager function is an operational position only, managing within the scope of authority provided by the Lead HLAC Manager as directed by the Recreation Manager. Day-to-day responsibilities are regular and consistent with little need for independent authority and decision making outside scope of training.

Essential Functions

  • The incumbent shall work well under pressure; meeting multiple and sometimes competing deadlines.  
  • The incumbent shall at all times demonstrate cooperative behavior with colleagues and supervisors.
  • Communicate with other staff, management, and the general public.
  • Development and implementation of American Red Cross in-service training/training materials for aquatic positions.
  • Ensure facility and grounds are kept in a clean and orderly manner.
  • Hire, schedule, train, and discipline recommendations to supervisor for aquatic staff.
  • Maintain and model excellent customer service to staff and patrons.
  • Maintenance and cleaning as required.
  • Manage rotation of lifeguards to ensure health and safety during work shifts.
  • Perform and document safety and maintenance inspections as need to anticipate and prevent accidents.
  • Perform/document pool safety, water quality tests and maintenance inspections.
  • Process documents pertaining to daily operation, water quality, incident reports, guard audits, and grounds staff.
  • Receive patrons and visitors requesting information answering questions or referring to other staff at all times. 
  • Report all accidents/concerns involving any aspect of the facility to the Lead HLAC Manager and/or Recreation Manager.
  • Respond quickly, effectively, and efficiently to all emergency situations.
  • Safeguard the lives of individuals in the entire enclosed pool area and prevent accidents through knowledge of lifesaving, proper use of equipment, and awareness of responsibility.
  • Supervise assigned staff in the aquatics area.

Supervisory Functions

  • Supervision of seasonal temporary aquatics staff.

Competencies        

  • American Red Cross water safety procedures and lifesaving techniques. 
  • Scheduling and payroll or ability to learn.
  • Functions of cash register and calculator or ability to learn.
  • Basic Mathematical functions.
  • Pool water chemistry.
  • Interact with general public.
  • Enforce regulations in a fair, impartial, and polite manner.
  • Deal with staff and public in a professional, team-oriented manner.
  • Anticipate and prevent accidents.
  • Work cooperatively with others.
  • Organize and maintain accurate records.

Required Education and Experience

  • Minimum two seasons experience in guarding and/or water safety instructor.  
  • One year as a head lifeguard at the Hamilton-Lowe Aquatic Center highly desirable.
  • Supervisory/Head Guard experience highly desirable.

Additional Eligibility Requirements

  • Current American Red Cross First Aid/CPR for the Professional Rescuer and Lifeguard training are required.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor highly desirable.
  • Lifeguard Instructor Training Certification highly desirable.
