Basic Function

Under the direction of the Fleet Supervisor or a Full Time Vehicle and Equipment Maintenance Mechanic, assist in Fleet maintenance duties; including primarily, washing and detailing vehicles at the City Shop and various other City Departments. The Seasonal Fleet Detailer Worker is a seasonal position and performs the full range of detailing and vehicle cleaning.

Essential Functions

  • Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions.
  • The incumbent shall work well under pressure, meeting multiple and sometimes competing deadlines.   
  • The incumbent shall at all times demonstrate cooperative behavior with colleagues and supervisors.
  • Detailing and cleaning of overs all non-mechanical components of vehicles including but not limited to tires and wheels, exterior body, trim, the interior surfaces, seats and carpets.
  • After proper training, operate a variety of maintenance equipment and tools including, small hand and power tools and trucks of various sizes.   
  • Assist in minor and preventive maintenance and repair work on equipment and facilities.
  • Perform routine janitorial duties.  
  • Perform all of other duties as assigned within the Fleet Department.

Licenses and Certifications

Valid Driver’s License


  • Ability to interact with members of the public respectfully at all times
  • Ability to work effectively with coworkers
  • Basic reading, writing, math, and computer skills
  • Ability to operate both light and heavy equipment
  • Ability to adhere to health and safety practices
  • Ability to adhere to laws, rules, regulation and policies
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, maintain routine records, and work cooperatively with others.
  • Ability to observe legal and defensive driving practices

Work Environment

  • Shop bays
  • Outdoor work
  • Regular exposure to fumes, dust and odors
  • Adverse weather conditions
  • Public Safety Vehicles that house firearms

Physical Demands

  • Climbing
  • Sitting and standing for extended periods of time
  • Lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Pushing or pulling
  • Bending/stooping
  • Walking
  • Reaching overhead and above the shoulders
  • Heavy physical labor
  • Working around and with machinery having moving parts
  • Work with chemicals
