Who's feeling a little antsy for an art event? We sure are, which is why it's a pleasure to announce that online registration for Palouse Plein Air 2020 is now open! The painting competition is scheduled to take place from September 11 to 18. During this period, participants paint outdoors at any location of their choosing within Latah, Nez Perce, Whitman, and Benewah counties. All painting media are eligible for competition, including gouache, watercolor, acrylic, and oil. There is no limit to the number of paintings a participant may make during the competition, but each registered artist is invited enter a maximum of three finished works for exhibition.
Plein air painting is naturally aligned with parameters for social distancing, so the competition will continue with adaptations designed to protect participants' health. For example, in lieu of canvas and paper stamping, participants will submit photographs of each painting on location along with photographs of finished works. Staff members at the City of Moscow Arts Department and the Prichard Art Gallery will continue to tailor exhibition and jury methods in order to protect public health. If it is not safe to host an exhibition and reception at the Prichard Art Gallery, artists will be invited to share their works with the public in an online exhibition hosted by the City of Moscow.
The Palouse Plein Air juror, who will be announced later in the summer, adjudicates the exhibition and confers the following cash and recognition awards:
1st Place ($400)
2nd Place ($200)
3rd Place ($100)
Best Onsite Photos of Artwork
The standard registration fee for Palouse Plein Air is $25, with a special student rate of $20 per registrant. All artists aged 18 and older can find more information and register using the following link: https://moscowarts.submittable.com/submit
Once you've signed up, tell your artist friends about this opportunity! We'd love to see a huge celebration of paint and the Palouse landscape this September.
The mission of the Moscow Arts Commission is to enrich the community by celebrating and cultivating the expression of all art forms and culture.
