February 16, 2021 (Moscow, Idaho) — Severe weather conditions over the past several days have caused Interstate-84 to close. I-84 is the direct route used to transport waste to Finley Buttes, LLC a regional landfill in Boardman, OR. As such, residential garbage pickup for today, Feb. 16, will be picked up on Tues. Feb. 23. Customers affected by this cancellation may set out extra garbage bags next week at no additional charge. Curbside recycling pickup will be postponed to Wed. Feb. 17. Wed., Feb. 18, garbage and curbside recycling collection is expected to operate as scheduled.
Moscow's Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) has been transported out of Moscow since 1993 to meet federal regulations when the Latah Sanitation MSW Landfill was closed. Deitrich Trucking is the current long-haul service provider for Moscow as a sub-contractor of Finley Buttes, LLC. Moscow has had a contract with Finley Buttes for this services since 2009.
Residents are asked to pull roll carts in from the curb to provide better access for plows to clear snow from the roadway.
