Refresh and Reset With the Moscow Farmers Market season officially over, the most common question our office receives is: "What do you do now?".
Aside from deleting 4 a.m. Saturday alarms, staff remains quite busy! We make sure that Vendors remain eligible to participate for the following season, crunch the day-of Market data, select dates for Craft and Food Juries, and much more. When it comes to planning for a weekly event that happens over six months, the 'off-season' is a great way for us to consider all the details and their impacts.
Right now, we get to support and collaborate with our colleagues in the Parks and Recreation Department to host Light up the Season (we're snow excited!). And we continue to provide resources to residents and community organizations looking to host their own events (y'all heard that Winterfest is coming, right?).
Even though we are in the office Monday-Friday, our work continues to be lively and spirited as we make connections happen in our community.

5 Ways to #SupportSmallBusinesses on a BudgetAs you start making lists and checking them twice, it can seem like your hard earned dollars have quickly evaporated before they are even spent. When it comes to #ShopLocal, it may feel daunting to know how to support a small business while gifting on a budget. Read on to learn how you can have a positive impact without breaking the piggybank. We promise, yule be glad you did!
1. Gift cards - We all know that your average cup of joe has gone up in price and even a $5 gift card is no small token these days.
2. DIY! A homemade gift is heartfelt and creative. Businesses are happy to help with inspiration and supplies. Try your hand at something new - knitting, jam, painting... Opportunities are endless!
3. Strategize - Many stores participate in Small Business Saturday which is the Saturday after Thanksgiving. But, beyond this day, many stores have their own deals and bargains to get the most out of your budget.
4. Social Media - If you find yourself on Instagram, Facebook or TikTok, liking, following, and sharing your favorite businesses deals, specials, and posts is a simple and free way to show support!
5. Group Gifting - Maybe you don't have the freezer space for a whole cow, but between you, your neighbor Sally, and anyone else you meat this year, you can probably round up enough ice boxes. Steak your claim and use Venmo (or a check!) to pay for your prime cuts.

Recipe of the Month: Turkey Tostada with Refried Lentils One great thing about Thanksgiving birds, are the leftovers they provide for days after! There are recipes galore on how to use any food that didn't get eaten Thanksgiving Day, but the turkey wins out with this recipe by Chef Dean Fuller from Idaho Preferred.
The fact that this recipe includes lentils is what sold us because it's different than the average turkey sandwich and happens to use something near and dear to the Palouse. Let us know if you try this!
Ingredients: 3 cups shredded turkey meat 1 package taco seasoning mix, divided 1 cup cooked barley 1 cup cooked lentils 1.5 cups chicken broth 1.5 cups tomato juice 1/2 cup cilantro 1 Tbsp minced garlic 6 corn tortillas 1/4 cup oil 2 cups shredded lettuce 1 tomato, chopped 1 red onion, chopped 1.5 cups shredded cheddar cheese Sliced pickled jalapeƱos Optional: Salsa, sour cream, guacamole
Directions:
1. Mix shredded turkey with 1 Tbsp of taco seasoning and refrigerate while cooking lentils. 2. To cook lentils, mix chicken broth, tomato juice, garlic, 3 Tbsp taco season, 4 Tbsp cilantro and uncooked lentils in a large baking pan. Cover with foil and bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes. 3. Mix cooked barley with 1 Tbsp taco seasoning and set aside. 4. When lentils are soft, remove from oven. Blend in a food processor (mixer or fork if food processor is not available). Add chicken broth if needed. Season with remaining taco season. Set aside. 5. Cut tortillas into 1 inch strips. Heat oil in frying pan and add tortillas to crisp them. Remove and lay on paper towel so soak remaining oil. 6. Place tortilla strips on plate or platter first. Add lentils, then layer cooked barley and half of the shredded cheese. Add lettuce, onion, and tomato. Finish with shredded turkey, remaining cheese, cilantro, and peppers. 7. Garnish with salsa, sour cream, and guacamole. 8. Enjoy!
