Moscow Farmers Market Introduces POP Club (Power of Produce) For the 2018 Season

May 2, 2018 (Moscow, Idaho) -- The Moscow Farmers Market is introducing a new free kids program for the 2018 season called POP Club or the Power of Produce Club. The goal of the POP Club is to empower children to make healthy choices when selecting food to eat. Beginning May 19, 2018 the POP Club program will run the third Saturday of the month during the 2018 season (May 19, June 16, July 21, August 18, September 15, and October 20) from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Children ages 4 through 12 are welcome to visit the Moscow Farmers Market the third Saturday each month between May and October to join the POP Club. Registration and check-in will be located at the designated POP Club booth at the Market, just look for the POP Club signage.

Each POP Club event will feature a produce and smoothie tasting featuring fresh local fruits, vegetables, and ingredients purchased from the Moscow Farmers Market that will vary based on the growing season. Smoothie ingredients will be posted at the booth. The smoothie tastings will also feature the Moscow Food Co-op’s peddle powered blender bike. A parent or guardian must attend POP Club events with their child.

The POP Club offers a chance for children to explore the Moscow Farmers Market and learn about the different varieties of fruits and vegetables, while also learning about how food is grown, by connecting them with local farmers. Each child that participates in the program’s events will receive $5 in POP Bucks which can be spent (by kids) on fresh fruits, vegetables, or food producing plants (tomatoes, carrots, herb starts, etc.) available for purchase at the Moscow Farmers Market. Kids will receive POP Bucks once per Market, each time they attend the POP Club events. Children can choose to either spend their POP Bucks that Market Day or save them for a future Market during the 2018 season.

POP Club is brought to you by the City of Moscow, the Moscow Farmers Market, Backyard Harvest, Eat Smart Idaho, and the Moscow Food Co-op. The POP Club program is offered through the Farmers Market Coalition, a nonprofit dedicated to strengthening farmers markets across the United States so that they can serve as community assets while providing real income opportunities for farmers.
