June 25, 2019 (Moscow, Idaho) — The City of Moscow is proud to announce the grand openings of the Highway 8 Underpass and Third Street Bicycle/Pedestrian Bridge on Saturday, June 29. The events are free and bicycle attendance is encouraged. Mayor Bill Lambert will cut a ribbon for the grand opening at the Highway 8 Underpass starting at 1:30 p.m. after which participants are encouraged to bike ride to the grand opening at the Third Street Bicycle/Pedestrian Bridge for the ribbon-cutting starting at 2:30 p.m.
Following the ribbon-cutting for the Third Street Bicycle/Pedestrian Bridge, citizens of all ages are invited to take part in a Medieval Troll Costume Contest hosted by Citizens for a Livable Community and APOD Productions. Come dressed in your best Troll costume, decorate your bike or just wear a mask! Prizes include gift certificates and books from “BookPeople” in Moscow. Participants in the contest will be judged in four age groups:
- Pre-School
- Elementary School
- Middle & High School
- Adults
The grand opening at the Third Street Bicycle/Pedestrian Bridge will include live music provided by the Jim Boland Band and actors from APOD Productions performing songs from “The Pirates of Penzance”. Refreshments will be served.
The Highway 8 Underpass, a pedestrian and bike route along the Paradise Path, passes under Highway 8 near Styner Avenue and offers a safer alternative for pedestrians and bicyclists needing to cross Highway 8. Parking for the grand opening is available on Travois Way or at The Crossing Church. The Third Street Bicycle/Pedestrian Bridge, a pedestrian and bike route along Third Street, is located between Mountain View Road and Roosevelt Street.
