August 26, 2019 (Moscow, Idaho) — In an effort to eliminate traffic fatalities on Idaho roadways, the Moscow Police Department, in conjunction with agencies throughout the state, implemented an Impaired Driving Emphasis around the Labor Day Holiday. This Emphasis includes additional patrols during the evening and nighttime hours and will run through September 4.
The benefits of an emphasis patrol were most recently seen this summer season when Moscow Police Officers participated in a targeted patrol for aggressive drivers between July 26 and August 9. During this emphasis, Moscow Police Officers:
- Patrolled an additional 54.75 hours
- Made an additional 108 traffic stops for a variety of concerns from speeding to texting and more
- Arrested 1 individual for driving under the influence
- Cited 40 drivers for speeding, driving with a suspended license, being an uninsured motorist, or texting while driving
The results of impaired driving are often tragic and motorists are encouraged to consider the risks to themselves, their loved ones, and other motorists. If a holiday celebration will involve alcohol, designate a sober driver and if you see a suspected drunk driver, please contact the nearest law enforcement agency. Remember, your seat belt represents your best chance for survival in a traffic accident, though only if it is used properly. Please buckle up, drive sober, and have a safe holiday.
